OneGreatFamily deploys alternate spelling in family tree
OneGreatFamily has received numerous submissions for alternate name spellings for first names and surnames. The service has already processed most of these submissions, and the surname alternates have been implemented.
When alternate spellings are accepted for names in your family tree, your experience on OneGreatFamily will likely improve in two ways:
You will see alternate spellings of your names in search results
You may receive new hints or merges in your family tree based on the alternate spellings
This new matching method is extremely powerful when combined with the millions of new names added to OneGreatFamily each month. More than 280,000 individuals were found to be duplicates and merged in only the last week. An additional 85,000 individuals received new hints as possible duplicates.
OneGreatFamily is in the process of improving its system to provide better matches on dates and places as well. This new functionality, which is funded through member subscriptions, will save everyone time and effort in their genealogy research.

What's in the future for OneGreatFamily?
by Jim Ericson - Marketing VP
OneGreatFamily is now more than two years old as a genealogy service. The service has grown to include more than 320,000 registered users who have submitted more than 57 million names . . . and we aren't slowing down.
During this same amount of time, other genealogy companies have come and gone. Others have been gobbled up through industry consolidation. OneGreatFamily has stayed its course and continues to focus on helping people see the human family tree from their own perspectives.
OneGreatFamily's growth is providing funds to continue to improve its offering. Opportunities for improvement that will be addressed shortly include creating standards for places and dates and supporting the international community.
The company has never had a shortage of great ideas or ways to improve the current service; however, such improvements require resources. Fortunately, the number of subscribers who recognize the value provided by OneGreatFamily continues to grow. With each new subscription, OneGreatFamily gets closer to making its mission of connecting the world through genealogy a reality.

Can you tell me more about GenMail?
GenMail is one of four ways to know what new information has been added to your family tree. The other three ways to identify when new individuals are added to your family tree include individuals in your tree that are in gray boxes, seeing a message indicating that "new stars" have been added to your family tree, and seeing merge indicators (!) in your family tree.
GenMail was developed to let you know which individuals in your family tree have new hints and merges on a weekly basis.
There are three ways to know if your family tree is growing on OneGreatFamily.com. Seeing which ancestors are new, however, requires a bit of effort.
We send GenMail email messages each week to let people know if their family trees are growing. Any match and merge that takes place in OneGreatFamily has the potential of adding new ancestors to your family tree.
GenMail displays the first several individuals and families that are affected through merges or who have new hints available.
GenMail also provides you with a link to view a Details Report to look at your ancestors who have been merged or who have new "hints." (A hint means there is a possibility that your ancestor is the same person as someone else in OneGreatFamily, but we weren't sure.)
Clicking on any name in the Details Report allows you to see if there are also new ancestors as a result of the merge that has taken place. You can collaborate with others who have common ancestors to learn more about the new individuals who have been added to your family tree.
OneGreatFamily is currently working on new additions for GenMail that will provide you even more information on changes within your family tree.

Having Fun with Genealogy
Good Afternoon:
I am relatively new to genealogy. I got started when a second cousin (I have never met) sent me a photograph of my grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. I had no idea who either of the latter individuals were, and I couldn't find anyone who could tell me who they were. I have since found out they are Annie Kelly Rush and Isabella McCarron Rush, both from Ireland. I am still not sure when they came to the United States, but I am far from finished.
I too am "obsessive compulsive" when it comes to looking for ancestors. All of my family's eyes glaze over when I start to discuss an "entanglement" that I have run across in my research. But I have so much fun when the pot of gold comes up in the course of research. I will keep researching!!
Thank goodness for computers.
