Introducing a new way to see who is added to your family tree
OneGreatFamily is pleased to introduce our most recent innovation to help you to see new individuals who have been added to your family tree at a glance.
The Starfield View (pedigree) now shows you which people have been added to your family tree through matches and merges with other family trees. These people are indicated by a gray box in the Starfield.
You can now see who has been added to your family tree at a glance and begin the process of verifying and validating the new information. If you don't believe the added individuals belong in your family tree, you can simply delete them from your tree.
Please be aware that other information may be made available to you that is not indicated with a gray box. For example, new birth, death, and marriage information may be made available to you. If this information does not agree with what you have already provided, it will continue to be indicated by conflicts (lightning bolts.)
Additionally, new individuals may be added to your family tree that don't appear in your Starfield View. You may need to show the descendants of an individual or search on the line of a sibling in order to see more individuals who have been added to your family tree.
We believe this latest innovation will provide more enjoyment and save people more time as they seek to identify and validate new information that is made available through OneGreatFamily.

Discover two ways OneGreatFamily helps your family tree grow
Response provided by Jim Ericson, VP Marketing
OneGreatFamily's service is designed to help people extend their family trees as they discover how they are related to others. This discovery often takes place as new relationships are discovered through matching and merging. This matching and merging takes place through two processes: 1. Automatic matching and merging performed by OneGreatFamily, and 2. Matching and merging performed by members.
Automated Matching and Merging
OneGreatFamily automatically matches and merges identical individuals in its database to remove duplication and to allow opportunities for collaboration. Merges only take place when OneGreatFamily has determined that the two individuals are matches with 100% certainty.
Matching and Merging Performed by Members
Individuals that are similar within OneGreatFamily, but who aren't exact duplicates, often create hints. These hints, which are indicated by light bulbs in Genealogy BrowserTM, can be accepted by subscribers to OneGreatFamily. Accepting a hint will merge the two records in question and provide the same opportunities for collaboration as an automated merge. Accepting relationship conflicts often results in the merging of families in OneGreatFamily as well.
With any merge, you will likely discover new individuals who are also working on your family tree. Working with others from around the world will help you verify and expand your family tree over time.
Any merge can also result in the addition of new information to your family tree. Individuals who are added to your family tree will appear in gray boxes. New information that is added may result in new hints and conflicts as well.
OneGreatFamily is pleased to be helping millions of people research and expand their family trees as they become part of OneGreatFamily. With between one and three million names being added to OneGreatFamily each month, you are sure to find new information for your family tree and meet others who are researching your family lines.

How do I get my family tree into OneGreatFamily?
by Ryan Long - Technical Support
There are three main ways that you can get started entering information into OneGreatFamily.
1. Submitting what research you have already done as a GEDCOM file
You can upload a GEDCOM containing your ancestral information. A GEDCOM is a file that stores genealogical information in a particular format, which allows researches to share and work together on their information. We not only allow you to add your GEDCOM to the collection of others that have been submitted, but once yours has been added, it will begin to connect with others as family links are found! This allows you to save time by uploading the information that you have collected and entered using a different program and not have to start from scratch.
You can upload your GEDCOM into OneGreatFamily by selecting “Import GEDCOM File to View” from the File menu in Genealogy Browser or by selecting the second option on the Organize Anchors Page that appears each time you launch Genealogy Browser after logging in.
2. Entering your family tree directly into OneGreatFamily
If you are new to OneGreatFamily, you will find that OneGreatFamily offers everything that other family tree services offer, plus more. If you do not already have a file containing your information, you can use our easy-to-use interface for starting from scratch. To start manually entering information, just launch your group and select the first option on the Organize Anchors page. From there you can begin to create records for yourself, your immediate family, and your distant relatives. As soon as you enter the information, OneGreatFamily begins to search what others have entered to find matches.
3. Starting with what someone else has submitted
Because new names are constantly being added to OneGreatFamily, many members find that others have already submitted some of their ancestors. This allows members to pick up where others have left off. Do a search of our database and see which of your ancestors have already been added. If you have additional information to add, just type it right in as if you were the original submitter. The information is automatically updated! It's that easy!
All of these techniques allow members to add information to their trees, and together, they are working to create the largest single family tree available. No matter which method you choose to upload your information, OneGreatFamily offers technology that can match and merge it with the information that has been submitted by others.
